It’s that delicious time of year again. Thanksgiving is filling the air with delicious aromas and excitement, love, and family in our hearts. However, with all the food available at your fingertips, it’s no surprise that Thanksgiving also presents its oral safety challenges. That is why our team is here to give you five tips to enjoy Thanksgiving this year, and keep your smile healthy.
These five tips include:
1.Drink more water. Drink water helps flush food particles and other acid and bacteria from foods out of your teeth.
2.Eat the sweets and deserts with your meals. Eating your deserts with your meals or shortly after will help keep the saliva in your mouth and cancel out acids in your mouth from food particles you are consuming.
3.Avoid hard candy and sweets in your mouth for a long time. Candy, sweets, or sticky treats that you suck on, or stay in your mouth for long periods of time, will keep food particles in your mouth. It will also increase plaque on your teeth causing tooth decay.
4.Brush twice a day. If you brush your teeth twice a day for at least two minutes, this will reduce plaque on your teeth and bacteria causing tooth decay and gum disease.
5.Floss daily. Floss cleans between your teeth where your toothbrush cannot reach. Flossing removes plaque between your teeth and food particles so you can keep your cavities and tooth decay down.
This Thanksgiving, don’t let the feast get your oral health down. Enjoy the food and treats your Thanksgiving has to offer and remember these five tips so you can keep your smile healthy throughout this holiday.
