It’s important to keep your oral health in tip-top shape by properly cleaning your smile right before bed. This is important because when you sleep, the sugar particles in your smile attack your teeth and cause major dental issues. So, to help you take good care of your teeth and gums at bedtime, our Lexington Heights Dental team encourages you to do the following things:

-Brush your teeth: Brush your teeth for two minutes with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. The soft-bristled toothbrush will thoroughly clean your teeth all while caring for your gums, and the fluoride toothpaste will nourish and strengthen your chompers, giving them the ability to fight off tooth decay.

-Floss your smile: Floss between your teeth with a flossing tool of your choice. Flossing is very important because it removes the food particles and plaque that are stuck in the crevices of your smile. This will help keep your smile in top-notch condition. As you floss, please be careful along the gumline.

-Rinse your mouth: Rinse your mouth with a beneficial mouthwash. Rinse for the recommended amount of time on the bottle, and make sure to follow the additional instructions. Rinsing will help you complete the smile-cleaning job and will kill the bacteria in your mouth that threaten to destroy your teeth.

-Be aware of teeth grinding: Teeth grinding is a damaging habit that typically occurs at night. If you tend to grind your teeth, it’s best to protect your chompers with a mouthguard. If you’re interested in wearing a custom-made mouthguard, please feel free to talk to your dentist during your next appointment.
